Personal Protective Equipment for 2023

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) refers to clothing or equipment designed to help keep employees and their surroundings safe. PPE can change with the season as the temperatures and precipitation evolve. A lot can happen in a contracting career, so brush up on your PPE guidelines with Lanracorp. The below serves as a guideline for weather changes and these will be modified based on your scope of work. Always perform a JSA and choose the appropriate PPE for your task. At a minimum, we normally recommend a hard hat, steel toe boots, eye protection, hand protection and potentially hearing protection. From this base guideline, you will add PPE as the scope requires.

Winter Protective Equipment

Starting the year with cold weather can be difficult in more ways than one. People often feel sluggish as the grey-sky days can feel gloomy. Winter days can also bring snow, ice, and cold weather. Be prepared for winter weather with the proper personal protective equipment.

Winter PPE Recommendations:

  • Wear insulated safety gloves
  • Use insulated, steel-toed boots
  • Wear fog-resistant safety glasses
  • Utilize winter liners for hard hats
  • Wear layers
  • Avoid tight clothing

Spring Personal Protective Equipment

Spring is often a rainy season – and rain brings mud, fog, and wet materials. Ensure your crew is protected against the springtime elements and know how to prevent accidents during this time.

Spring PPE Recommendations:

  • Wipe mud frequently from self and equipment
  • Beware of soft ground
  • Wear a high-visibility raincoat
  • Wear boots with traction
  • Beware of fog

Summer PPE

Warm sunny days are a bright spot in the year; however, they can present a new set of dangers to the workplace. The sun can damage the skin and lead to heat stroke and dehydration. Protect yourself during the summertime with the correct PPE.

Summer PPE Recommendations:

  • Wear sun protection
  • Stay hydrated
  • Utilize vented hard hats
  • Use sweat liners
  • Invest in anti-fogging glasses

Fall Protective Gear

Autumn is often a toss-up in terms of weather – there can be tornadoes, rain, warmth, chill, and everything in between. Dress appropriately for the temperature, and beware of the season’s unique threats.

Fall PPE Recommendations:

  • Carefully navigate leaves
  • Watch for mud
  • Beware of wind
  • Dress in layers
