How to get buy in at all levels?

  • Lead from the Top – Your decision making should be based first upon safety, then your core values. People will notice and follow suit.
  • You must Preach it Every Day – What gets talked about, gets done. If you don’t fill the conversation with safety and core values, someone else will fill it with whatever they what. Lead the conversation.
  • Be Consistent, Coach, Encourage – Be consistent on safety, don’t let others slack. Coach everyone all the time, to do better on safety. Encourage and don’t punish near miss, BBS, etc.
  • Be Proactive, Not Reactive – Safety is about prevention.
  • Teach others to Mitigate Tasks, Make that a Habit – Every task, the first thought should be, what are all safety risks, and do no begin that task until risks are mitigated.
  • Safety is Collaborative – Use others knowledge, create discussion, this is how risks are minimized.
